Description: We cater primarily for Land Rover enthusiasts who enjoy competing,
watching or simply chatting about these vehicles in their natural
habitat - the countryside. The majority of members live in the North of
England between Lancaster and Penrith and most club events take place
at attractive venues throughout Cumbria.
During the course of a year, we hold about a dozen competitive events
and regular administration-cum-social meetings. In addition, as a
member of the Association of Land Rover Owners clubs (The A.L.R.C),
invitations to join other clubs' activities elsewhere in the country,
are often received.
Typically, Cross country Trials for either 'Road Trim' or fully
modified competition vehicles are organised each month at which the
emphasis is a close, safe competition in an informal environment. These
trials are run under rules established and published the RAC Motor
sports Association and the A.L.R.C., supplemented by local club rules
where necessary.
Family participation is encouraged and several Father/Son and
Husband/Wife teams regularly compete. The sites available to the Club
are both challenging and scenic with a wide variety of terrain from
rocky high fell tops to boggy woodland areas.
The Club can also provide a useful service to anyone undertaking Land
Rover repairs or restoration, as cheap sources of elusive spares can
often be found among the Membership or via our Club magazine and
website.
In common with other motor sports clubs, increased attention is now
being given to environmental issues. Through close liaison with the
appropriate authorities, we are fortunate to enjoy our sport in a
particularly attractive part of the country. Strenuous efforts are
therefore made to minimise disruption or damage to local communities,
grassland and trees etc., and valuable work for land owners is often
provided by club members who possess a wide range of equipment and
skills.
We do not publicise our activities too widely (so that we do not
create excessive spectator traffic for instance), preferring instead to
limit our events to club members and local Land Rover enthusiasts who
we hope will be equally sensitive to the environmental issues referred
to.
The club takes an active interest in rights of way/land access issues
and has been involved in traffic management discussions within the
national park, also providing an advisory Service to other clubs who
visit the area to help ensure that the good will generated by our
activities is not negated by other visitors to the National Park |
