MG first began to produce cars in the under the watchful eye of Cecil Kimber. Named from the Morris Garages where Kimber customised a selection of Morris cars. The first cars began life as different Morris models with improved styling to give a much sportier feel. Demand for these cars was high, leading to the move of the company to larger premises in 1925. Following several more moves, MG settled for production in Abingdon in 1929.  MG produced a range of cars in their factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire for many years until 1980. MG still continued production with a selection of sports versions of the Austin Rover’s Metro, Maestro and Montego cars.

MG have produced a range of small two-seat coupes which have been seen as a trademark for the company. Many different types of the two-seat coupe have been produced and have very many fans following them. MG have been seen as a stalwart of Great Britain, with the characteristic two-seat coupes being some of the sportiest cars produced in Britain.

MG have changed hands repeatedly since its inception. The British Motor Corporation, British Leyland, BAe and BMW have all held on to the reigns within MG at different times. In 2000 the company became known as MG Rover where both unique and rebadged Rovers were produced up until 2005 when the company went into receivership.

Thankfully, MG have managed to have success in the world of motorsports, introducing these classic British sports cars to the world. MG have featured in the British and World Rally Championships, along with the Le Mans series.

The appeal of all MG models is very easy to see. Classic lines, simple design and an overall charm has attracted many fans to the brand.
